All AGIF Members,

Below is a small remembrance for a dear friend, a member of the American GI Forum (AGIF) of Texas, San Marcos, an Air Force Veteran, husband and father, Celestino Mendez, Jr. who recently passed away.

Celestino is survived by his wife Monica Mendez, daughter Monique Mendez and stepson Andrew Mendez (Alejandra), all of San Antonio. He is also survived by his daughter Rose Mendez Segrave (Brian), his previous wife Elida Simmons, and his sister Ruth (Mendez) Rosales, among many nieces and nephews. He will be reunited with his son Jeffrey Wayne Mendez, his parents Celestino Sr. and Amalia Mendez, brother Servando Lozano, sisters Cecilia (Lozano) Flores, Alicia (Lozano) Portilla, and Helen (Lozano) Aguirre. 

Services will be held at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, from 4-8 p.m., with the rosary at 6 p.m. On Friday, June 3rd, we will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to arrive at St John Berchmans Catholic Church, at 1147 Cupples Rd., in San Antonio, for mass at 10 a.m., and interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. 

Daughter Rose Mendez Segrave, is planning a memorial to be held in San Marcos in about two weeks or so. I will keep you all posted.
