Mrs. Tula B. Sanchez Dies at 79

McAllen, Texas - Tula B. Sanchez, 79, beloved wife of Robert P. ‘Bob’ Sanchez, long-time Legal Advisor for the American GI Forum of the U.S. and of Texas, was called by our Lord on March 25, 2015. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015. At 2:00 p.m., Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen in her honor, and the burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Tula Sanchez attended Holding Institute in Laredo Texas, graduated from Mission High School, and held a Bachelor's degree from Pan American College, studying Education and Music.

Her love of music and the arts was shown through by her lifelong contributions to the Pan American Roundtable of McAllen, the International Museum of Art & Science Guild, the McAllen Child Study Club, the international Woman's Board, the Octet Choir at Pan American College, and her service as a pianist to El Mesias Methodist Church in Mission Texas.

Tula loved to spend time outdoors with her family, particularly at Tula Ranch, where she cherished the wild game and the freedom of the open spaces. The ranch was acquired by her father, Dr. Cayetano Barrera Sr.,' for the family in 1941 which is enjoyed by her family and friends to this day. She was an accomplished pianist and appreciated the symphony orchestra. She could often be found at the piano entertaining family and friends. Those who had the pleasure of enjoying her fantastic home cooking, will miss the variety of favorite meals such as her enchiladas, menudo, ' poblana rice, chili reIlenos, carrot cakes and pies.

She was a loving wife to her husband for 55 years and a devoted mother who selflessly placed the needs of her family before her own. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends 

Tula Sanchez is survived by her husband R.P. "Bob”. Sanchez, children Sonia (Roc!), Richard (Conny), and Edward (Dahlia), seven grandchildren, Josef, Christian, Jacob, Sebastian, Anton, Emma and Liliana, her brother Cayetano Barrera M.D., and sister Aida Torres; and preceded in death by her parents Cayetano and Simona Barrera, her eldest son Robert (Karin), brothers Luis Barrera, Reynaldo Barrera, and sisters Alma Siporin, Anna Guerra, Velia Valedez, and Olga Gonzalez.
