Obituary for Telesforo Lorenzo "Lawrence" Manchego

Telesforo Lorenzo “Lawrence” Manchego, age 79, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Friday November 1, 2019 at his home in China Spring, TX surrounded by his family.
Lawrence was born on November 17, 1939 in Garcia, CO, to parents Flaviano and Viola Manchego. He graduated from Centennial High School in 1958 and enrolled in the Air Force in 1960. He received basic training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, TX. He spent eight years stationed in various locations including Spain, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Roswell, NM. On June 13, 1964, he married Betty Jane Vigil in Costilla, NM. The couple had three children. In 1972, he moved to Colorado Springs, CO and accepted a position in civil service at the Air Force Academy where he worked for 24 years, eventually retiring in 1996 at the age of 57. In 2002, he moved to China Spring, TX where he lived the rest of his life surrounded by his immediate family.
Lawrence will be remembered for his loyal, generous, and quiet soul. He was a devoted husband and loving family man who dedicated his life to the service of his family, friends, and community. He served in the National Guard from 1980 to 1984 and was also an active member in the Colorado Springs chapter of the American GI Forum, a Congressionally chartered Hispanic veterans and civil rights organization. He played an active role in his grandchildren’s lives; he picked them up from school, moved his granddaughters into college, and delivered McDonald’s to his grandsons. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan who enjoyed his early morning walks and delighted in the silly things in life including his large collection of Christmas-themed, singing stuffed animals. His never ending strength and playful, gentle spirit provided a lifetime of memories for his beloved family and he will be dearly missed.
