AGIF joins in Texas disaster relief efforts through a Humanitarian Call to Duty of its’ Veterans membership and chapters nationwide by National Commander Lawrence Guzman Romo.
Corpus Christi, Tx. — The American G.I. Forum is the largest, and longest standing organization for Latinos who served our country, veterans! Since its inception, the AGIF has served thousands of Latino veterans through various AGIF structured relief programs which have included: food drives and distribution, health and policy advocacy, COVID emergency relief for everyday essentials, rides to medical appointments, mental health awareness, pet assistance/supplies (www.WoundedPawProject.org) and disaster relief during a pandemic or national disaster for our most vulnerable veterans. A special focus during the storms in Texas will be our reaching out to veterans in rural and low income communities.
I am calling our AGIF State Commanders and local chapters, along with our corporate sponsors, to mobilize so that our efforts can commence immediately! As National Commander, I call a national Humanitarian Call to Duty of our veterans and membership so that we may mobilize our outreach efforts in the hard to reach areas. Many of our veterans, with their families, children and pets have been displaced and are suffering. The veteran population that we serve for the most part, is already displaced due to some form of physical and/or mental disability, not to mention financial hardship. The pandemic has widened the hardships experienced by our veterans and the snow storm took away what little they had: shelter, food, services from non-profits and medical assistance.
The AGIF is proud to serve as a voice for our veterans and with your report to duty and support, we will achieve our goal of providing essential necessities and conducting welfare checks. Make no mistake, your participation will have real impact immediately and will save lives! Our veterans have helped many during a pandemic and/or disaster, not only in the United States, but around the world. It is our turn to help those that have helped us. As National Commander, I ask each of you to please report to Humanitarian Duty.
All contributions will be made out to the AGIF. They can be mailed to the AGIF Texas Disaster Relief Program, 635 W. Corona, Suite 114, Pueblo, CO 81004 OR for wire instructions (as sponsors have done in the past), in-kind contributions and W9’s, please contact the AGIF’s VP of Development, Patsy Vazquez-Contes at email: This email address is being protected from spambots. I hope you will all stand and join me in this Humanitarian Call to Duty. Thank you and God Bless America! Gracias!
