PRESS RELEASE 4 - The American GI Forum whole-heartedly supports the proposed House Bill (HB) 4635 and Senate Bill (SB)2402 which will enhance the Veterans Administration (VA) benefits and assistance to women veterans

The American GI Forum whole-heartedly supports the proposed House Bill (HB)4635 and Senate Bill (SB)2402 which will enhance the Veterans Administration (VA) benefits and assistance to women veterans. We proudly and whole-heartedly support our military members, and over 15% of our military is composed of women serving.

Women proudly serve in all military job occupations and have excelled in job performance and all aspects of military service. The proposed House Bill( HB)4635 and Senate Bill (SB)2402 would mandate the VA to recruit women peer support counselors with expertise in gender-specific issues and services, VA services and benefits and employment mentoring.

The VA will emphasize peer support counseling for women veterans who suffer sexual trauma while in the military, have PTSD or other mental health conditions, are homeless, or at risk for suicide, conduct program outreach with other applicable public and private organizations and conduct peer support counselor training.

It is imperative we take care of our heroes, our veterans. Enactment of this bill will definitely enhance the wellness of our female veterans.
