Resolution in Support of the “Veterans for New Americans” 

WHEREAS, the American GI Forum of the United States, at its Annual State Conference held between July20th and 22nd, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM, convened to address issues affecting United States Military Veterans and their families, and;

WHEREAS, Veterans for New Americans, a project of the National Immigration Forum, is a national network of influential veterans representing each of the military branches and veteran service organizations who support a bipartisan solution on immigration that strengthens our national security, enhances our military readiness and supports out non-citizen United States Military Service personnel, their spouses and immediate family both at home and abroad;

WHEREAS, since the independence of the United States of America, non-citizen United States Military personnel, non-citizen Veterans and current non-citizen United States Military service members have provided immeasurable contributions and continue to sacrifice in the defense of our great nation. New American non-citizen volunteer recruits selflessly provide a racial, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity of the United States Military armed forces;

WHEREAS, non-citizen service members provide much-needed talent and insights to accomplish the United States Military mission throughout the globe successfully;

WHEREAS, full United States Military Veterans American citizenship for all United States Military Veterans and current non-citizen United States Military personnel will assist our non-citizen men and women in uniform, to secure leadership positions and advancement opportunities during the course of their individual United States Military careers and transition to civilian life after their United States Military careers;

WHEREAS, our nation deserves to have the best and brightest talent to staff the most technologically advanced military in the world and to ensure force readiness;

BE IT RESOLVED, that the American GI Forum of the United States supports the Veterans for New American Principles and Policies designed to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Ensure Non-Citizen United States Military personnel are included in our military force readiness plans to effectively meet any global or national security challenge.

     

  • Support Non-Citizen United States Military personnel by providing an efficient pathway to citizenship as part of their Military service.

     

  • Ensure New American Veterans receive the appropriate care for service-related conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health disorders, as well as support for reducing the risk of behaviors that may result in deportation.

     

  • Provide support for families of New American Non-Citizen United States Military Personnel and Non-Citizen Veterans.

     

  • Support transition initiatives for current Non-Citizen United States Military Personnel and Non-Citizen Veterans to enter the public and private workforce.
