THE NEED TO INCREASE MEXICAN AMERICAN AND LATINO MUSEUMS IN OUR NATION RESOLUTION

WHEREAS:  the American GI Forum of the United States strongly recognizes the dire need to create Mexican American and Latino Museums throughout our nation, which cover the history and contributions of Mexican Americans and Latinos in our Nation’s History, as well as the military contributions of Mexican Americans in all our nations wars, and

WHEREAS: the American GI forum recognizes that the rich history of the American GI Forum and its founder, Dr. Hector P. Garcia is not adequately covered in history books or museums, and

WHEREAS:  The American GI Forum is aware of the economic impact of museums which include these facts;  (a) Museums employ more than 400,000 Americans per year.  (b)Museums contribute $21 billion to the U.S. economy.  (c) Museums and other culture organizations return over five times as much in local, state, and federal tax revenue as they receive from all levels of government, and

WHEREAS:  The American GI Forum believes that cultural literacy be improved in the area of military history, enhancing the offering of courses of Mexican American and Latino Studies in Public Schools, and therefore

BE IT RESOLVED:  That the American GI Forum vigorously lobby its public officials, and municipally-funded Arts Organizations to establish Mexican American and Latino Museums.

This resolution was adopted at the American GI Forum Annual Conference in Albuquerque, NM which convened on July 20-22, 2017
